Can you believe another week has already come and gone? Each week we see the release of some great comics, and the covers to many of those great books are impressive themselves. We’ve chosen some of our favorite comic covers for this week and we’ve posted them below.
We chose the first cover because it is sort of symbolic of a character coming full circle throughout a series. If you remember the first issue of IREDEEMABLE from back in 2009, you might recognize the similarities between it and the cover to the series finale. The first issue we had an image of a very pensive Plutonian, and at the end of the series we see him with what appears to be a very different outlook on life. It’s interesting to see how far he’s come. It’s a great, stylish, simple cover and we really liked that it was not only pretty, but it was conveying a message. Very clever.

Next up is the cover to AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #686. We loved the Gabriele Dell’Otto image of Mysterio gripping Spidey’s throat — not because we have anything against Spider-Man, but because we thought the image was clever. It’s very different from the usual poses we see on covers; we like this one because we’re seeing Mysterio from Spider-Man’s perspective, and pictures like this are always fun.
You can never go wrong with Skottie Young — the man is an absolute genius and we love everything he does, which is why we had to point out the cover to DOROTHY AND THE WIZARD IN OZ #7 of 8. Poor Scarecrow, it seems he’s lost his head! It’s a clever image and you have to feel bad for poor Scarecrow.
Two BOOM! Studios books made the list this week. In addition to IRREDEEMABLE, the cover to issue #14 of CLIVE BARKER’S HELLRAISER also made our picks for the week. The picture is dark and creepy, and we felt it really capture the essence of the series as a whole.
What did you think of our picks for this week? What covers from this week’s new releases did you guys like that we didn’t pick?
